ZERO PLASTIC LUCBAN

The Town of Lucban, Quezon, in partnership with Got Heart Foundation, celebrated tradition and renewed their commitment to the environment as they proclaimed “Yaku sa Plastic: Balik Balulang, Lucban!”, a message that seeks to inform all Lucbanin of the efforts to lessen and eventually eliminate the use of plastic within the Municipality.

Resting on the importance of protecting our already fragile environment, Got Heart Foundation engaged important stakeholders to take the first, crucial step in managing waste by implementing the ZERO PLASTIC Lucban, a program supported by Municipal Ordinance 2008-03 entitled “An Ordinance Regulating the Use and Sale of Plastic Bags/Plastic Cellophane (Polyethylene) as Packing/Bagging Materials and Institutionalizing the Use of Biodegradable Containers within the Municipality of Lucban, Quezon.”

Being pioneered within Barangay Poblacion 4, MO 2008-03 and the Zero Plastic Program prohibits the sale, use and distribution of plastic pouches and bags in all business establishments in Lucban while encouraging the public to go back to the use of the traditional and environmentally-friendly bayong.

  1. This is so true! I myself was touched by how the people of Lucban is partaking in nurturing this world. I was at awe when I saw everyone using the "balulang" or most commonly known as "bayong" to help ease the use of plastic and alikes. And not just a few individuals is returning to the old habit of using the balulang....drop by at the municipal market and surrounding establishments and you will certainly see the active participation of the Lucbanins. I'm a frequent visitor of this famous Quezon town, i almost consider myself as an "adopted son" because of my ties with it and the number of visits i am doing evry year. I intend to settle and retire at this lovely town by the foot of Mt. Banahaw and celebrate with them not just the Pahiyas every May but to celebrate with them, one of the truest essence of life...and that is to give back to mother nature. I salute you. Salamat sa Pamilya Bala at Pamilya Raneses. -jingxs

  2. naks... its good that there's the effort. but honestly, the use of plastic can only be reduced but cannot be 100% zeroed. realistically, there are still number of products packaged in plastic and no way can be sold in other way. AGAIN, the good of the matter is only the "reduced use of plastic". so, let's continue to support the program.
